first of all my websters defines genius as

exceptional intellectual ability or creative power; a strong natural talent; a person who excerts powerful influence over another....

now with that said, the examples of americans that JUDGE and others gave you fits the definition of genius to a tee.

you said a "non-money generating person"

everyone you listed made money off of their talents.....so i think you should include some americans that also profited from their talents some more than others.......and this being a SPORTS FORUM.... i could go on and on about great amercians that can be considered geniuses.... remember a genius can be someone who "has a strong natural talent or exerts influence over another.....

my choices

1. cassius clay/ali, joe louis, rocky marciano..
2. michael jorden, wilt chamberlain, bob cousy
3. jim thorp (indian), jim brown, lawrence taylor.
4. ty cobb, babe ruth, hank aaron,

the people i listed influenced and changed they way america and the WORLD viewed sports.

these people all had numerous shortcomings (in case you havent figured it out we all do)
but IMO they can be considered geniuses right along with the people on your list.....

sorry if my list wasnt intellectual enough for you..............now with that said

you can go FCK YOURSELF.......and i mean that in the most sincere of ways........
